Has anyone ever met a Satanist ? I've met very weirdo cultist known to man, but never a Satanist. They must be very rare or they really don't exist or they are in hiding.
Originally posted by buckkyNo, Satanists real. There is a Church of Satan. They have a website if you google. It was started by Anton Lavey who published the Satanic Bible around 1969. I don't know anything about their method of worship, and I wouldn't want to.

Originally posted by buckkyI used to work for a satanist. As far as I know, they're not into the animal sacrifice stuff of urban myth. Basically, satanism is a philosophy of the self, like hedonism in a way. While Christians exalt the virtues of self-sacrifice, satanists exalt the "virtues" of selfishness.

Originally posted by epiphinehasI'm not sure you can say that about all of them Epi. Every now and again you hear stories of such animal sacrifices. Of course you then hear people then say that it was really aliens who came down and mutilated the animals instead, but that's for another thread.

Originally posted by buckkyWell, the Church of Satan was founded during the hippie-cult days in San Francisco around the late 60s. They are not the stereotypical people that others think they are. They don't have horns and hooved feet. One could be working in an office cubicle alongside a Satanist. They generally believe in self-indugence, are selfish, and believe that life is to be lived by whatever makes one happy, sometimes at the expense of others. They do worship Satan, however. Satanism is a serious practice not to be taken lightly. Check out their website to get a more definitive explanation.

Originally posted by buckkyyeh, i met one once, quite a sincere lady, when i was incredulous at her affirmation, she showed me a tattoo on her arm, and there it was, a large satanic emblem. i would have talked to her more but it was freezing.

Originally posted by buckkyNot me. You should go to different night spots, or are you writting a book on "weirdo cultists" and are lacking the final chapter on Luciferians?

I knew a LaVeyan Satanist once (yes, there are many different kinds of
Satanism). Being LaVeyan satanist he was in fact an atheist, using Satan
more as a symbol of the selfish urges of man than anything else. He
believed that there exists no real concious supernatural powers (hence
any sacrifice to Satan would be in vain and a meaningless waste). He ...[text shortened]... ly we lost contact (though never would I make myself
his enemy without great cause, mind you).

Originally posted by divegeesterI have befriended a few snake handlers. It's not my thing, but I'm interested in learning what makes them tick. This spring I am going out with some to help them collect the snakes.

They are possibly not as dangerous either looking at those snakes!
