Pain is a response of our body that demands our attention - usually to something that is damaging or potentially damaging. So, I would say that pain is good, since it tells us of something happening that we need to address.
Pleasure is almost by definition good isn't it?
So, I would say both are good, for different reasons.

However, all good/bad judgments must take into account the greater good, so if pain brings benefit that offsets the bad, then overall, it may be good. Equally, pleasure that results in bad may overall be bad. (Eg you may take pleasure from money or goods that you steal, but at the same time you cause pain to the victim.)

pleasure can be gained from heroin or sniffing lead paint. so not all pleasure is "good"

If both are good or both can be bad, does that mean they are amoral really,
and that we have to look at intent and even there be suppect since as the
saying goes the road to hell is paved with good intentions?

Yes, generally pain is bad and pleasure is good -but that's far from the only things that are bad and good.
For example, I would say, subjectively, being delusional is intrinsically bad and having pity on the unfortunate is intrinsically good.
Suddenly going a bit off-topic here, I would also like to add:
Love is the ultimate insult to evil but pity comes as a close second.
