    Those people were traveling around the desert for years. Hunger, thirst, malnutrition, diseases, weariness... All that they did was complaining. Maybe about the lack of food and water. Maybe about the endless wandering that in normal conditions would take something like a month. But either they way they just complained. And for that they had to be burnt to death.
    If He really was compassionate wouldn't he realized that complaining was only to be expected at those conditions?

    42 children make fun of a bald man and God commands two bears to tear the 42 children to pieces. Surely I'm not the only that sees this as unfit to a caring, loving God. Children for crying out loud!

    The "create disaster" part is also translated as "create calamity" or "create evil".

    So a loving, caring, forgiving God creates disaster, evil and calamity?

    Gen. 7:21-23
    And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, birds, cattle, beasts, all swarming creatures that swarm upon the earth, and every man; everything on the dry land in whose nostrils was the breath of life died. He (god) blotted out every living thing that was upon the face of the ground, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the air; they were blotted out from the earth.

    Silly children. Don't you know there is no God? What I would be concerned about if I were you is the reality of the human condition. It's one thing to joke about a non-existent God, but quite another to observe the cruelty and hatred with which mankind has dealt with its' own.

    Pointing out how morally debased your own text, the bible, depicts your alleged god as being does not mean we actually believe he exists.

    Romans 8:28 - And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

    "..to them that love God..", and "..who are the called.."

    That is, those of us who have responded in faith to His call.
