Why not the entire history of the USSR's existence and their war on those who are religious?

"in the name of atheism" ???
Are you trying to make a classification of atheist like if it was another group of people who have some belief in common?
Some groups with no official religion have committed atrocities, but never in the name of "not believing god". That's just so stupid.
By the other hand, lot's of atrocities have been committed in the name of God.
Some people are just bad, and they can't be tolerant, attritions start that lead to hatreds and finally to wars and atrocities. Religion is know to be one of the greatest poles of discordance between men.
And attitudes like you did of trying to associate groups with bad acts just instigate to intolerant behaviors.

If atrocities have been carried out by those who are religious as well as those who disdain religioun, what does this say about either those who are both religious and not religious? Does it not say that perhaps the motivating factor lies at the heart of mans nature and not religion per sey?

I was wondering what was taking so long for someone to come to the defense of Atheism.

However, some people were treated as mentally ill for their belief in God per se. That was an atrocity.

Atheism was the "official state religion" of the country Albania. I got to know by two educators who traveled there.

Sure it was a group of people who had a belief in common as mandated by the state.

Fortunately there's never been anyone treated as mentally ill or killed for their disbelief in God per se.

Whoops, no. Apparently Stalin never held up a banner saying 'Athiests unite'.

Or any other USSR leader, for that matter.

Who needs a banner when one sees him closing down church's and waging war with those who are religious. Are you denying that such activities took place? If you were so much as caught with a Bible in the former USSR you were in bad shape.

Yes there have. If they were thought to disbelieve certain dogma they were killed.

C'mon everybody knows about that.
