Are you trying to make a classification of atheist like if it was another group of people who have some belief in common?
Some groups with no official religion have committed atrocities, but never in the name of "not believing god". That's just so stupid.
By the other hand, lot's of atrocities have been committed in the name of God.
Some people are just bad, and they can't be tolerant, attritions start that lead to hatreds and finally to wars and atrocities. Religion is know to be one of the greatest poles of discordance between men.
And attitudes like you did of trying to associate groups with bad acts just instigate to intolerant behaviors.

Atheism was the "official state religion" of the country Albania. I got to know by two educators who traveled there.
Sure it was a group of people who had a belief in common as mandated by the state.
