box 3 definatly has the gold 100% one is empty, 2 is saying box 3 has the gold and box 3 the other boxes are empty so is has to be box 3

Box one could have an arrow drawn on it to point to box 2. Then "This box is empty ->" would be saying box 2 was empty. This would be true if box one contained the gold
So:
If box 1 is empty, box 2 contains the gold.
If box 1 has a rock in it, box 3 contains the gold
If box 1 has an arrow to box 2 on it, box 1 contains the gold.
