Joined 08 Dec '03 Moves 3140 A rectangular swimming pool of constant depth is twice as long as it is wide, but the owner is unhappy with the dimensions of the pool.
The length is reduced by 12 units and the width is increased by 10 units. When this is done, the modified pool will hold exactly the same volume of water.
What were the pool's original dimensions?

changed to 25 units by 18 units (area = 450 units^2)
(Although you may argue that the length is now 25 and the width 18, in which case it can't be done!)
