walk + ed = walked
nod + ed = nodded
But these regular past tense verbs have one of three endings in regards to their pronunciation; /d/, /t/ and /id/.
The last sound of 'played' is /d/.
The last sound of 'walked' is /t/.
The last soun e learnt better, but just in case you missed those classes - hope this post helps.
