That's not the position on white's 30th move.

I thought perhaps it was an earlier position but the white bishop never lands on e2. Maybe you meant a different position tim88?

Blacks 30th move was Qg3+. Instead of playing this he should have played Re8+ with the mate described previously by ChessPraxis.

    That's it. Forced.

I need to remind myself sometimes that a pinned piece is not out of play. Sometimes it takes a while on a given move to have the vision.

White has serious problems. Not only is he mated, if black can ever unpin his Bishop on g6, then white's rook on h5 is enprise. 😕

This is an instructive position based on the mobility of the white rook.

I will show why the first line in my quoted post wins for white.

Black now has two moves to prevent the threat of 4.Qg6+ Kh8 5.Rh5# and they are 3...Kf7 and 3...Rf7. However, 3...Kf7 loses horribly to Qxf6+

The more difficult move is 3...Rf7.

Was there anything wrong with 8. Qxb8 MATE in the final board...?

No, there isn't. Thank you for pointing that out... That is a very instructive atypical mating pattern.
