Hi guys, I'm just wondering if there are any playable opening traps out there. Looking for things that will not really hurt you if your opponent does not fall into them. 😕 if those exist.

    Funny enough, that's why I don't play 1. e4!

Every trap is worth a roll of the dice.

    1.e4 d5 2.d4!! the counter trap.

A new one I've seen on another forum which does not really damage the Black position..

    1. e4 c5 2. Nc3 Nc6 3. d3 d6 4. g3 Nd4!?

And White wants to challenge the Knight. 5.Nf3 and they see Bg4
pinning the f3 Knight so they play 5.Nge2??

No known victim yet - but give it time.

That was my answer to the Scandinavian when I had a brief fling with 1. e4 a few years back. My intention after 1. e4 d5 2. d4 was to transpose into the Blackmar-Diemer Gambit, but I never got to test it in a rated game.

That has got to be one of the least trappy lines in chess.

    3.exd5 the exchange variation trap.

Possibly the most boring opening in chess.

Yeah, but I was referring to the exchange variation. I pretty much gave up the french because I got tired of the exchange variation.

This line looks like it has some potential for action?

Cambridge Springs Defense in the Queen's Gambit declined has traps based on a discovery along the 5th rank when there is a bishop on e3 that make it fun in low level blitz. Any competent 1. d4 player will be well aware of them but it is still a sound opening, Kasparov used it against Karpov in a world championship match and Alekhine used it several times against Capablanca in their match.

    ...and can turn out 1.e4 d5 2.d4 e6 3.Nc3 dxe4 4.f3!?

    ...or my blitz fav 1.e4 d5 2.d4 e6 3.Nc3 Bb4 4.a3? Bxc3 5.bxc3 dxe4 6.f3?

The "?" for white was what the computer thought of the moves when I tried it on the comp back in the day when I had one of the beasts.
Didn't stop me from winning lots of blitz games with it vs the humans:-)
