...calling BS (bull-shyte, for those who don't know American slang).
In other words, games where your opponent made a pointed threat and you willfully ignored it and won (or vice-versa; we learn the most from our losses, right?) because it wasn't as bad as he thought, or that you had threats that were faster/more devastating.
Originally posted by greenpawn34I guess I'm looking for games in which you saw the opponent's threat, yet let him play it anyway, because either A) you had more dangerous, or faster, threats of your own elsewhere, or B) allowed it to happen because you saw you could escape in the end, even though it looked scary for awhile.
Hi Big Dog,
Trying to get a handle on this.
Do you want games where we spotted a threat, (not over-looked it) ignored it,
played a counter threat and it transpires the counter threat was duff and we won or lost.
Yes.

Does this count? Black (me) to play. I want to play Qe4 then work on shifting the white king out of the way of my f-pawn. White's threat is Nf6, which means I have to exchange the knight for my rook and open up the possibility of a series of perpetuals.
Here's how it plays out...
Remember - the analysis board is your friend 🙂. I might have done the same over-the-board but I've got enough losses to vouch for my usual calculation skills.
Originally posted by hunterknoxNice calculation, but no, it doesn't count, because White wasn't actually threatening Nf6 - it was covered twice in the diagram.

Close, but no cigar.
Originally posted by greenpawn34I'd have probably taken a draw at that point too. I hate playing against queen + knight. Anyway off to find something to please the big dogg...
[b]Just looked at this - White has a draw.
Edit: I show a staircase because I was looking for one, but there is no
need the Queen can check on b2 and c2,
