    WOW. Look at this

In a 15 min blitz with ~1600 rated player. His last offensive move (about 4 moves back), he put me in check with his knight and had the pawn pinned - so he went up a rook. I figured that it was over agaisnt such a good player, so I went for an attempted mate. I moved Qb5 - a4 - 1 move from a mate...he saw it; moved kc8 - b8...then I, Nc3 - b5 -- now I have forced mate option.

There is only 1 way out of that mate!! (Do you see it)

    Talk about perfect position 😀

Assuming you are white, and he was black, I can only see how to prolong it 1. ... Qxa3

    Is that what you meant?

Qd6 is better - he did that - then resigned.

I will savor this win for a while, never have I had such a good finish.

How is Qd6 better? Wouldn't you just play Qa7#?

if you play to a7, a sacrifice for a pawn - prolongs it only 1 move?

To d6, sacrifices a knight for the queen, and black can then escape mate until the endgame. Maybe even win it...he was already up a rook...but white will likely when, because from there he could get black's knight for free

    c8 isn't covered by a white piece. The threatened mate is 1. ... moves 2. Qa7+ Kc8 3. Qa8#. 1. ... Qd6 makes an escape route for the king, as after 2. Qa7+ Kc8 3. Qa8+ black has Kd7. But since black's got 2. Nxd6 that isn't much consolation.
