While we are sharing, here is my first win over an IM. It's a 3 minute game played online. Black is IM Michael Valvo

    Here he resigned!
My first game with a GM was Tal Shaked. I played a Torre Attack, like I could stun a GM with that. He naturally ripped me apart. That was only time I have ever played a GM. I have beaten a ton of masters and Woman IM's at FICS though. I even have a scalp with the Latvian Gambit in my notebook. 🙂

I knew Wilf Pratten quite well as he was still an active member of Fareham Chess Club when I joined around 1979 / 1980. He was a nice guy and still a very strong player even then, when he must have been over 70. He was British under 18 Champion in 1924 and 1925.

His famous game against Maczynski is great fun, with Black sacrificing both rooks and his queen!

So here we have an example how not to play.
    Game 5366188

Count me as the first white victim of the Grob.
I probably should have heeded the warning: only for the experienced player 😉

it'll be a tough fight over which one of you will resign/abandon all his games first.

    3. h4, Bg2 or e3 would have all been better 3rd moves for white that 3. e4??.

I would have played all 3 of them as soon as possible.

In the Grob I have found the greatest danger for white is the black squares.

    Grob's Attack II
Many Grob players enjoy the (self-)destructive nature of the opening. By immediately moving the g-pawn two squares ahead White is really saying:
"... I meant to move the f-pawn actually!"

    😛
