some surprises today, hack attacks beaten back, Polgar tried it with Americas Sam Shankland and was toast, Krammers tried it with Spanish GM Vallejo and he got toasted, always nice to see hackers get wasted to sound positional chess 😛

I think Polgar could've put up a good fight with 51...Bxc4

I got banned from chess.com's live discussion of the Olympiad because i said Sam Shanklands Caro Kann videos sucked, which they do if you ever have the misfortune to watch them. He might be a grandmaster but hes a poor teacher. On a more positive note, Roddy Macky game was epic.

Do you mean Anton Smirnov?
EDIT: Wow! He's on plus 6! That's only 1/2 point behind Samuel Shanklin for board 5 performance (though Shanklin has played an extra game, which is a win so he's actually 1.5 points behind, but still!)
This is a great win, i really love the tactical vision to find 15.Qa6! at the end of that long series of exchanges. Really creative play. 🙂

White would have been better after 13.bxa8 ..Qxa8 14.Qxd1 as he is ready to launch a pawn storm with h4 which is actually really hard for black to stop as ..h5 is met by g4. But this move here shows great calculation, he must have seen this tactic from 5 moves back at least } dxc5 15. Qa6 { ! Crushing!! } Rb4 16. Qc6 Rd4 17. Bxd4 cxd4 18. Nd5 Nb8 19. Rhg1 { I'm not quite sure what is wrong with R(d)g1, i can see that white would like an open h-file but is it worth a pawn? not sure i agree, but hey! Who's the master here? Certainly not me.} Qxh2 23. Nd3 Qh4 24. f3 Qf6 25. Qe2 Nd7 26. Rc1 Rb8 27. Ka1 h5 28. Rc4 Bh6 29. a3 a5 30. Rf1 Nb6 31. Rc5 Bf8 32. Rc2 Na4 33. Rc4 Nb6 34. Rc2 { Nice little time burner to edge closer to the time control. White hasn't really found a way to convert his material advantage and has drifted into a slightly passive position. It is black that has to make something happen though. } c5 { Does black have to give up this pawn now? ..Be7 looks quite natural to me, with the idea of playing ..Kg7 and giving the Rb1 access to h8 where it can support the h-pawn in an ending. A little bit of maneuvering wouldn't hurt, his pieces are all pretty well placed. The Queen could be more involved perhaps, but he has time to wait... } 35. Nxc5 Kg7 36. Qb5 { I bet black was wishing he still had control of b5 right about now... } d3 { Yeh, cos that's really a threat. Seriously?? The rest is just a matter of technique, black has lost all coordination now...} 37. Nxd3 Bd6 38. Rc6 Qd8 39. Rd1 Qe8 40. Nf2 Bf8 41. Rdc1 Nd7 42. Qxa5 Be7 43. Qc3 Bg5 44. Rd1 Nf8 45. Nh3 Bf6 46. Originally posted by Data Fly I believe Esse is on 4.5 / 10, which means that she will be awarded the Canidate Womens Master title if she wins tomorrow, thus achieving a 50% score!
And she did it!

I hadn't realised that Esse didn't play in the first round, so her 5.5 points was out of ten rounds, not eleven. Indeed she actually scored all her points in the last six rounds.
So it looks like Esse will be awarded an official FIDE title (WCM) for a performance in a tournament in which she lost in three moves!

Wow! What were her other games like? She must have played against some players with a half decent rating??
