So we've got the tournament going now. It's a six player single round robin with different boards for each pairing for each round. The winner gets undying fame and glory! Our doughty competitors are:

1. XanthosNZ 1975
2. seraphimvulture 1926
3. Yuga 1824
4. GambitAccepted 1703
5. leisurelysloth 1679
6. zebano 1572

The first round is 1 vs. 2, 3 vs. 4, and 5 vs. 6.

Positions have been randomly determined and we have:
XanthosNZ v. seraphimvulture
FEN: rbknnqbr/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/RBKNNQBR w - - 0 1

Yuga v. GambitAccepted
FEN: bbrrqnkn/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/BBRRQNKN w - - 0 1

leisurelysloth v. zebano
FEN: qrnbbkrn/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/QRNBBKRN w - - 0 1

And here are links to the games (others will be posted shortly):

Hmmm...I always thought that the king had to go inbetween the rooks?

We just used random locations for the pieces, I think.

I realized that it's actually a double round robin, just seems like a single because you play each opponent once (2 games at a time though).

That's Fischer Random. Shuffle Chess has the restriction of bishops not being on the same colour but other than that nothing. There are no castling rules for Shuffle Chess (unless your king and a rook start on the standard squares) and this is the main reason we chose this over Fischer Random.

First game finished, I believe. I've taken a quick look at the games, and they're coming along rather nicely; the games between XanthosNZ and seraphimvulture show clearly that they are probably the two fastest players on the site.😉 (Take your time...)

Game 2052727 Yuga wins.

Definitely one of my better games; my one glaring mistake was 12. d6? which could have been responded by Bxf3, allowing some unnecessary counterplay.

The other game between GambitAccepted and I is now finished:

Game 2052733

Good luck to the other participants as they complete their games.

It occurs to me that we've overlooked the question of scoring this tournament. Are we going with the RHP standard 3/1/0 or 1/0.5/0 or ???? Any preferences?

Congratulations on winning your games.

The usual tournament standard is a point for a win and a half point for a draw, but I do not have a preference on whatever scoring we use.

XanthosNZ has won both of his games, and it appears that seraphimvulture has left the site.

All games of the first round are now finished: will we be having a second round?

1. XanthosNZ 2/2
2. Yuga 2/2
3. Leisurelysloth 2/2
4. GambitAccepted 0/2
5. zebano 0/2
6. seraphimvulture 0/2 Withdrawn

So we have an uneven number again. I think the best way would be to fill this spot with any player who wishes to play. So first in gets the spot.

EDIT: A swiss system needs 0/0.5/1 rather than 0/1/3 for L/D/W.

Does the swiss system have an accounting method to deal with a player withdrawing? Does our "newplayer" have to start out in the hole with SV's two losses?

Or do they play two "make-up" games against XNZ? In which case it would seem that XNZ is getting the shaft by losing credit for his two wins....
