For the purposes of this thread, textbooks or audiobooks are perfectly acceptable.

If I may say, you really do write extremely well for someone who rarely reads for pleasure.

His "liberalism" in the original and truest sense of the word; his love of freedom and individualism; secondarily, his biography is intriguing.

We really should start a Mornington Crescent thread.

Several books in parallel (a habit which allows me to dip into whichever of them I feel like at any given moment):

Zazie dans le métro, Queneau
Leave it to Psmith, Wodehouse
Met mijn teer gestel, Toonder
Palimpsest, Stross
A book of 16th century verse
and I've just finished 1 Maccabees (which is boring), and am about to start on 2.

I've never managed to get through a whole book in the Bible, but I'm attempting the Book of Daniel because I enjoyed Walton's Belshazzar's Feast so much.

I also read books in parallel, abandoning many along the way: I recently reduced my currently-reading list from 39 to 20 this way. Must be done to avoid it getting out of hand 🙂 .

Currently reading "the tibetan book of living and dying" by sogyal rinpoche

It's an amazing read

if you enjoyed daniel, you'd love Judith
It's apocryphal though, so you need the Jerusalem Bible to get it (catholic version)

Actually also in the habit of reading several books at the same time. I read a short story anthology edited yb Clifton fadiman mainly.
