Sugar & lemon juice.
Don't over-complicate it!

More like on Belgium waffles, butter and real maple syrup. With crispy bacon on the side. Just made that bit this morning. Also my son is lactose intolerant so I tried using Almond milk instead of cows milk and that worked just fine. Just a couple of cups of bisquick (Cheating I know) a half teaspoon of baking powder, 2 eggs, a quarter cup or so of olive oil and I notice when you add the milk, almond or cows milk, after it sits awhile the mixture starts to thicken and if you use a Belgium waffle maker, it likes a thinner batter so I thin it up with more milk after it sits a while then onto the waffle machine. We have one like the ones you see in hotels with free breakfast, they rotate around and have the deep waffle posts.

This morning I fried a couple of eggs to go with it and sliced up some watermelon from the fridge.

With the bacon, eggs, maple syrup, and watermelon, it was a nice breakfast.

We live in Pennsylvania where there are literally thousands of acres of maple farms.

One place I go to on labor day weekend is a folk music camp called Journey's End, and they have 200 acres of maple trees and process maple syrup right on the property.

They also grow some great yellow nectarines, now in season, really good tasting, they sell on the side of the road here. The place I got my last batch actually let me eat one to see if I liked them. I surely did.

Deep waffles, yes, baked in a properly seasoned waffle iron. Teflon does not get hot enough to get waffles properly crisp on the surface. Also, separate the egg whites and beat them stiff, then fold into the batter just before baking; gives a lighter, fluffier waffle than otherwise.

Jam with fresh redcurrants or sliced kiwi if I have them.
Otherwise lemon juice and sugar and the pancake mix is always unsweetened.
