A vicar notices a boy studying the memorial plates to the fallen hanging in the vestry. Row upon row of names and dates: John Smith 1915 aged 53, Henry Johnson 1916 aged 37, etc. Sometimes even fathers and sons: Charles Jones 1917 aged 45, Charles Jones Jr. 1917 aged 18, and so on.
"Father?" the boy asked, reverently, "Who were these people?"
"My son," the vicar replied, "those are the people who died in the service."
The boy burst into tears.
Deeply moved by the boy's compassion, the vicar asked, "My son, what troubles you so?"
The boy replied, "Gosh, were the sermons that bad then?"
PS 3 hours 39 minutes to go till Wednesday.
