"The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil,
but because of the people who don't do anything about it." ~ Albert Einstein
There is a singer everyone has heard,
Loud, a mid-summer and a mid-wood bird,
Who makes the solid tree trunks sound again.
He says that leaves are old and that for flowers
Mid-summer is to spring as one to ten.
He says the early petal-fall is past
When pear and cherry bloom went down in showers
On sunny days a moment overcast;
And comes that other fall we name the fall.
He says the highway dust is over all.
The bird would cease and be as other birds
But that he knows in singing not to sing.
The question that he frames in all but words
Is what to make of a diminished thing.

--Vince Lombardi, Head Coach Green Bay Packers (1959-67)
“The ultimate test of man's conscience may be his willingness to sacrifice something today
for future generations whose words of thanks will not be heard.” ―Gaylord Nelson

The Death of the Hired Man (By Robert Frost,1874–1963)
"He hates to see a boy the fool of books.
Poor Silas, so concerned for other folk,
And nothing to look backward to with pride,
And nothing to look forward to with hope, So now and never any different."

Comment: In my view these italicized lines from this lengthy poem are among the very saddest ever written....
"The basic tool for the manipulation of reality is the manipulation of words.
If you can control the meaning of words, you can control the people who must use them.”
―Philip K. Dick
