Well ... the sauce also coats the underside making it especially tasty.

Grated cheddar on cottage pie is an absolute requirement.
But I believe minced lamb is flavoursome and fatty enough without the cheese!
(And leeks not onions!)

I recently went to a family gathering where I was given a home-brewed beer by a proud cousin.
