Not exactly "leading edge" but would be welcome a lot more than a bunch of superficial UI changes.

This isn't leading edge, in fact it's really old tech.
But it sure would be nice to be able to post clickable URL's in posts or personal messages. Also the ability to do simple stuff in the forums like underline words, change colors and font sizes... stuff that just about any other forum on the planet has had available for over a decade.
I'm guessing the forums aren't a focus at RHP, but why not? They attract users and encourage memberships.
