Win 10, bing comes in unbidden and I have to futz with it to get to Chrome or whatever.
I looked looked up the methods and so far no good.

The only one left is the one talking about getting rid of it in registryedit.
    Haven't done that yet.
But all the instructions I did see didn't pan out, I can't find Bing anywhere in my system, in add or remove programs and the like, nothing.
I think Bing is a website, so maybe it's just a matter of changing the URL for your brower's home page in its settings.

I'm pretty sure Bing is a search engine and website, but not a browser per se.

    K-11 appears you're correct.
Microsoft Bing is a web search engine owned and operated by Microsoft. The service has its origins in Microsoft's previous search engines: MSN Search, Windows Live Search and later Live Search. Bing provides a variety of search services, including web, video, image and map search products. Wikipedia

Yes, I am absolutely correct about that.
When I wrote "I'm pretty sure" I was just downplaying how correct I was. 😉

What have you got against Bing? His version of White Christmas is the stuff of legend.

    In Edge browser:
Three dots menu (upper right corner)
    Settings
Type "search engine" in the search box at upper right.
Of the results returned, click on "Address bar and search".
"Search engine used in the address bar" has a dropdown menu to the right.
"Manage search engines" will let you add one that is not already listed in that dropdown menu.
    Thank you kevin.

everything went as you explained except when I opened a new tab, it still used bing.

I went back in to see if the DDG was retained. It was, so some kind of success is there.

    thanks again

not sure what these people mean by "default search engine".
it retained DuckDuckGo as my default search engine but when I open a new tab, it is BING search engine.

very frustrating. as per usual, microsoft SUCKS. trying to get away from those bastids
