You can find this information in the "Help" section under "Options".
But to make this simple, do this:
1) Goto TOOLS menu and choose OPTIONS.
2) Next, click on GAME tab and check mark the "Show Opening" box, if
unchecked.
3) Click APPLY at bottom to save changes.
Then make certain your Status Bar (shown at the bottom of Fritz7) is
ON - this is were the opening information in both ECO code and name
will appear when you play through (or play) a game. If your Status
Bar is active you will see Fritz7 at the bottom left (or New Game) of
your screen and the game time control on the far bottom right. If you
do NOT see these, simply go to the VIEW menu and click on STATUS
BAR to make it active. You should see the Status Bar appear.
Did you follow the first part of my message to turn "show openings"
on?
If so, when you play a game to the point that the opening can be
determined by Fritz7, it will show it. This also works when you review a
previously played game.
If you still do not get this information, try inserting your Fritz7 CD
before you play through the game. If still no luck, then you might
want to goto HELP on the menu bar and slide down to TO
CHESSBASE.COM. You need an active Internet connection to get to
the site - you may be able to get help from them beyond what I am
able to provide you.
Fritz7 probably uses it's built in book, the one it uses for play. You
can purchase and install opening books from Chessbase, but I am not
certain Fritz7 would use them as replacements for its general
announcement of a type of opening.
Fritz7 is an extremely good chess-playing program. Yes, there is
much to learn about how to use it, but you will be very happy with this
program when you have gained some experience with it.
Also, if you have not done so, go to www.chessbase.com and download
the latest update for Fritz7. The update fixes several bugs and
improves the playing strength! The update is free.
