    Not being in a dictionary doesn't make it not a word.

    There are plenty of perfectly good [indeed excellent] words that have not yet graced the pages of the major dictionaries.

    And I see no reason for renumerate not to be one of them. It has a nice ring to it,
    and it's meaning is pretty clear. It's going into my spell-checker.

    It is.

    That's because spelling is arbitrary and once you have learned a 'wrong' arbitrary pattern
    your brain can and will bring that up as well as [or instead of] the 'correct' one.

    Personally I feel that 'correct' spelling is a soon to die fad, and dyslecksicks will
    take over the Earth.

    The OED used to have some arbitrary number of
    "publishings" for a word to go in the dictionary. It is
    a conundrum though - when does a word become a word?

    Personally I think "googlefudge" has more chance
    of getting in the dictionary than "renumeration"!
