Using the BP disaster for political gain
21 Jun '10 15:11Just out of curiosity, how can the BP disaster be used for political gain? On the Republican side, that is pretty obvious. What you do is point to the ongoing disaser and the Obama administrations inability to stop the gushing oil as they, on the one hand blame BP, but, on the other hand, say they are in full control.
However, from a Democrat perspeticve, how can this be used to their advantage? Can it be used to push thier agenda of cap and trade? In fact, will the shutting down of refineries in the Gulf send oil prices skyrocketing causing a much desired cap and trade effect? After all, the goal is to begin to make oil unaffordable, so perhaps this is the catalyst for their dream of raising prices at the pump.
