Kayaking?

Any serious kayakers here? My son and myself are wanting to do a 4-6 day kayak trip down the Columbia River later this Summer between Portland and Astoria and just looking for any tips or advice....

Are you going to camp on rivers edge at night?
If so , I guess you would have to think of what kind of supplies to take, seeing there wouldn't be too much room in a kayak.

I'm guessing thats like a canoe.
