my yard and house and the pen for the dogs is set up in a manner that encourages parcel delivery inside the pen, at the back door...
i have a doggie door installed so that i am hardly ever inconvenienced by the pups wanting to go out or come in...
    however,
if they happen to be snoozing during the day (a regular, normal habit of canines) and the amazon delivery victim comes along and opens the gate to the yard,

and the dogs are attuned to the sound of that particular gate latch,

then they hit the exit and are upon the hapless courier within four nanoseconds...

    me,
getting to the olde side of decrepit,
cannot keep up with, or corral, the eagerness with which the guardians defend the domicile...

i ran out as fast as i could when i heard the sequence of events unfold,
    the gate opened,
the dogs let out yelps of chaos,
she let out her own yelps of bladder relief,
and then along trundles rookie, tut-tutting all the while...

of course, my dogs wouldn't hurt anyone,
but it's hard to communicate that truth with one who is sobbing and gasping for air as she sits in her car trying to recover from the shock...
i asked her if they had hurt her,
    no
i asked if she wanted a drink of water to calm her nerves,
    no
i asked her if she would like a date on saturday night,
    no

i think i'm gonna put up a sign on that gate...

Now there was I anticipating her giving you a ‘yes’.
You should show that to a film producer.

Just to clarify, you have a special pen for your dogs?

Is that so they can sign for the deliveries?

Nice! Sounds like you were channeling a little Mark Twain there big man. There's a great narrative voice to your writing. 🙂

I think the couriers (no matter the firm they work for) have a "gadget" where a dog could just tap it's paw as a means of verification of delivery.

I believe they are still working on the prototype.
