It is the one rule of chess that most people who learn how to play casually don't know. Barnes & Nobles used to have a chessnight every Wednesday and lend out sets. I would play lots of excellent players and lots of casual players. It was lots of fun except for the time I was accused of cheating because I played en-passant.

Not at all.
When new to chess you learn to play without knowing all the rules. You learn the rulse as you go.
Like now when you learned en passant the hard way.
