Svetozar Gligoric (1923 - 2012)

Hello Again.

Chess players everywhere was saddened to hear that Svetozar Gligoric
had recently passed away. Those of us of an older generation will feel
that another chapter in our chess childhood has been closed.

There was a time when Gligoric’s name was mentioned in chess clubs
and whose game frequented every chess magazine as often as som...

All From One Small Note....

Hello.

Last week there was not enough room to fit in all the analysis on the
exciting game between jamescott - stevie b, so we start this week with the
conclusion of this game.

Spassky and the Greco + more rip offs + Prose Winner

Last week I showed you how easy it was to rip off an expert
ripper offer spotter like me. If I can get caught than so can you..

But don’t let me put you off ripping off. Ripping off is good.

Cast your mind back to end of that glorious year 1972.
Those of you who were not born then can take it up with your maker
when you meet again. (hopefully not too soon....

The Rip Off and the 11 Year Old Champion.

Hi Campers

By a quirk of fate and some rotten bad luck mine and Mrs greenpawn’s holidays
just happened to happen at the same time.

To be honest I am not what you would call the holiday type. I never go anywhere.

A Joke, A Trap, Missed Mates in One

Here is a joke you can play on your buddies at the chess club.
I have caught a few with, once I caught three players all at the same time.

You show them this game. It’s only 12 moves so you should
be able to remember it.

Fridges + Marshall + Endgame + The Lundin Note.

The hardest bit about doing this blog is the beginning.
The chess stuff is pretty easy, pluck any RHP game at random or be inspired
by a thread. Either usually gives me something I can make use of.

But I don’t want to just dive in with a game. There is no fun in that.

So this week it’s fridges. ...

Rain + c3 Sicilian + The Chess Magazine

Hi Chaps.

Rain, Rain, Rain.
I used to think we British loved talking about the weather because it always changes.
Well it has not changed at all for the past week and all we have been talking is the
weather. Rain, Rain, Rain and Rain Again.

Apparently all rainfall records have been broken since rainfall records began...

The Torch + The Triple Hit

Do you know what this is…..?

Bait on b8.

I was playing through a game on another forum where a lad who was White
picked up a whole Rook with a Knight Fork on c6.

1r1q4/8/2N5/8/8/8/8/8 w - - 0 1
This was the pattern, and then went onto lose.

I advised him not to feel too bad (it happens) and made a small bet that I could find
an RHP game with the same trick using the same pattern and with the same result....
