The first thing you do is do NOT buy the opening book!
Pick it up at the bookstall and look for the small print.
For example suppose you want something v The Grivas Sicilian

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Qb6
The most obvious move to me is 5.Be3 offering the b2 pawn. However, this move is
relegated to a sub variation and after 5...Qxb2 the move 6.Nb3 is given top priority.

Now you take a closer look at the ‘possible continuation’ 5...Qxb2 always
remembering that the moose who has bought the book will have skipped this
bit and happily filled their moose head with pages of the ‘mainline theory.’
A couple of RHP games where Black took the a1 Rook and quickly went astray.

We just saw White mating with the two Knights, now we see White mating
with two Bishops. Once again Black gives up their King to save their Queen.
polysh - podraga RHP 2021
Always check the small print and that goes for any opening you are interested in.
Do not worry if a computer says an active idea is not good. You will not be playing
a computer but some human who is now trying to remember what to do next.
They will of course come up with nothing, panic, see ghost threats and lose.
