?? To many a chessplayer this will be met with "C'mon! you can't be serious!!" It is a bad move, it is just wrong - no matter how you look at it.. But I am gatvol (see profile for description), gatvol of the usual openings, kings pawn, queenspawn, english, Reti... I developed this move playing against my son - in order to teach him the principles of the opening. I call it: "The Opening of the Future.." or in short, the "Boere Opening" (Afrikaans guys may understand). I have won a surprisingly number of games against surprisingly strong players with this jewel of an opening.. I guess they see the opening, think it is just a kid, a total newby on the otherside of the board, they relax (= underestimate), think its a won game...- and then they see their arses

This is certainly a surprise response..

Why not just take the centre, I'm giving it to you!
3. g3 e6 4. Bf1g2 Nb8c6 5. d4
then I'll just take the centre

YES! But you should have done this on your first move, now you have basically wasted a move!
6. Nb1c3 a6
Why..?? there is no threat there, the Bishop is already on the diagonal - instead of wasting moves, you should develop your pieces!!

Another wasted move! (1) it is too early to develop the queen (2) it blocks the path of the black bishop! Now it will take at least two more moves to develop the bishop

And there..! All white's objectives complete. (1) all pieces developed (2) control the centre (3) king to safety and (4) rooks connected - opening done, let's start with the middlegame.. Despite the terrible choice of opening, the extreme defensive play of black has allowed white to finish all objectives of his opening - come out of the opening with a huge strategic advantage... Black will take at least three more moves to finish his opening (1) for the Knight, (2) for the Bishop, (3) to bring the king to safety. During these moves white can reposition, start with an attack plan...

No time to waste, while Black struggles to finish his opening, let's take the centre

White completely dominates the centre, and thus the game..- while black struggles to complete his development
