    Religion Beyond Dogma
    Science Beyond Materialism
    Philosophy Beyond Doctrine
    History Beyond Tradition
    Education Beyond Authority

    These are the chapter titles of an audiobook I am going to listen to soon.

    What ideas of your own [as it were] do these titles bring to mind?

    James Hilgendorf brings up some interesting points. His concept that "Evolution is a battleground for both sides" may indeed be correct, but coming up with provable facts will be challenging, since time has erased most of the physical evidence.

    The Science Beyond Materialism title brings to mind visions of a single celled creature pondering a cost/benefit analysis spreadsheet as it plots the leveraged buyout of a blockchain startup. 😏

    I think it may be a battleground for young-Earth Christians who don't accept evolution versus Christians who believe that evolution is divine methodology. I don't think there is any "battle" between YEC Christians and non-believers, if this is what "both sides" refers to.

    If "history is written by the victors" has indeed been the "tradition" then, in so far as that restricts what we know about the past or how we see it, that is certainly unsatisfactory.

    What is the appropriate role of "authority" here?

    Brainwashing = bad
    Indoctrination = probably bad
    Inculcation = inevitable
    Socialization = necessary
    Conditioning = necessary

    Does education without authority result in commonality being dilutes?

    Might not arriving at doctrines inhibit philosophising?

    That would depend on one's interpretation of the word "Beyond"

    This would be an ideal question for lawyers. I hear they really like debating abstract hypotheticals.

    Philosophy Beyond Doctrine

    "Doctrine" - like ideology - is arguably intended to end [or have the effect of ending] doubt, dissent, and discourse, so going beyond it could perhaps entail preserving one's curiosity and keeping one's mind open.

    To my way of thinking "doubt, dissent, and discourse" are healthy and they are to be found beyond philosophy that has not been reduced to doctrine.
