On a site overrun with trolls, it would be nice to able to ban a specific poster from a thread.

The criteria to do so should be via a request from a mod, by showing examples of trolling behavior from posters. If the mod can agree there's ample evidence said poster's a troll, the mod should disable the poster from being allowed in that thread. This way, it won't be an abused feature, used only to keep out people who merely disagree with you.

Hmm, that might be putting too much of a time and effort burden on the mods for something that could be handled other ways.

E.G., don't feed the troll, or assemble a posse to represent the opposition. πŸ˜‰

(although that latter way might just offer a buffet to the troll)

And then there's outclevering. Or a zen approach: If the river is still and the bridges are flowing, what is a troll to do?

Probably other methods such as giving every member a certain quota of virtual tranq darts per month would just end up being abused by the wrong people and not achieve the desired results.

On a site overrun with trolls, it might be the OP who gets banned from the thread. πŸ˜‰

If you want to exclude certain posters, use the Private Forum feature. That's what it's there for.

Why not just come right out and mention who you would like to see banned from the forums, probably best after you buy a subscription. πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜›

Just keep reporting those posts, if they happen to continue, and if they are clearly in violation of the terms.

Eventually the statistics will weigh against Suspect X.

    "Don't feed the troll."

Take it to heart, and trolls will not bother you further.
