    Well, that is one way forward.
    But I still think it will always be a relatively trivial way forward compared to the improvements that can be achieved via spintronics. Now, if only someone would kindly just finally get spintronics off the drawing board and into the real world .....

    My now defunct company, Inplane Photonics was into that kind of thing. They made optical modulators using indium doped optical waveguides. The last paragraph was the important one, making an optical transistor. That has to be followed up to make optical logic gates. That is the next step. They need millions of and gates, Nand gates, or gates, XOR, multivibrators, counters and so forth.
