He is pathetic.
If you remove prize money and just give out a title and a trophy you could put an end to cheating in chess. Maybe 🤔
Then you would have people who play because they love the game.
Then use the proceeds from the tournaments to open new chess clubs and donate boards and give free lessons to people that can't afford them.

Just an idea
And when it's successful roll out the idea to football, baseball and basketball.
Nobody should get paid for doing something they enjoy.
It was just suspicion, they didn't have proof he used engines on his cell phone. That said, it was unlikely a dude close to 60 would rise in two years from average GM area of 2500 two hundred points higher.
The question is, how could he have done such cheating for two years without getting caught?
I think they will have to get his cell phone to answer those kind of questions.
He may not even had such engine apps on his phone, he could have been sneaky and just made a phone call to a home computer that did the work and just relayed it to the cell phone.
Then all you would have is connecting to his home phone or whatever, maybe a comp in a hotel room. Still, a thorough look at his cell records should show suspicious activity. He would be thoroughly cooked if it was shown he had actual chess apps right on his phone but I suspect he would not be that stupid.
@dirtysniper Bad move on the part of a GM for sure. But what is also a bad move is who placed a camera in a toilet area? What if he had been caught using the toilet instead of cheating?
He could have sued and even pressed charges and whoever took the pic would probably have to register as a sex offender lol.
It looks like someone put their phone over the door and snapped a pic.
I don't think it was a hidden camera.
