...in Round 8 at the Isle of Man candidate qualifier.
Board 7 Shirov v Yu Yangyi, is sitting next to board 8 Karjakin v Dreev.
Shirov copies Karjakin moves, Yu replies to Shirov's move
and Dreev replies to Karjakin's move with Yu Yanyi's move.
Come move 17 with the exact same position on both boards.
Karjakin plays 18.Qe5 which is not correct and is deemed a mistake.
Shirov unaware 18.Qe5 is a mistake plays it v YU Yangyi,
Yu Yangyi, replies with 18...Qh5 (18...0-0 is better) and Dreev
then plays 18...Qh5 v Karjakin. The arbiter had seen enough and
moves the players to different rooms. Karjakin won. Shirov v Yu Yangyi, drew.
Either someone was cheating or maybe...just maybe they all know that none of them can beat the Great and Immortal Magnus Carlsen and they are just having some fun.
Lasker just might get a decent game in chess hell but he will still beat Carlsen. 😉
