The Pawns in a Goldfish Bowl Winner

I analyzed the contest.

First I looked at the goldfish bowl and you can see it is not full.
The front is full but the back isn't.

So he used something to block the pawns towards the front.

First I thought of a chess number but he said no multiples of 8 so 64 was out...
Then I counted the many different colours and was hoping he put all the pawns in the bowl...🤔

Too easy...so...

Next I thought...why Feb 10th?
A special date? Not that I know of...

So it's his birthday 🎂

So then I looked up past articles with him online being interviewed...

I came across an article where it was a chess event in 2010 or 2011 and they said greenpawn was 60 years old.

So I added it up and came to the conclusion that this contest was about greenpawn's 71st or 72nd birthday.

The book?

Well...let me just say when I first started chess long ago I came across a book called "Mastering Chess: A course in 21 lessons"

The section on tactics written by Geoff Chandler...also known as greenpawn has a special quote...

(This may not be exactly what he said but here it is)

In regards to studying tactics we don't play chess on little diagrams...
Set up the board and study tactics properly...

That message has been with me since the beginning of my chess travels...

It's surreal that I won this book after all these years...🤔

Pretty close regarding how I managed fill up the bowl. I put a small cup
inside the bowl and dropped in the pawns. I used the pawns from 5 sets .
Also I am 71 this year!

I did have 32! but have given a number away now have about 10.
Have a genuine licensed Staunton which I never use (I might as well sell it)
and the first set that started all this, on Christmas day 1962 a lovely now
well worn wooden set which I still use.

The coloured sets (green, blue, red and yellow) are really nice and
cost me £1.00 a set. (have about 10 boards, a few roll up - one wooden.)
Three chess clocks and over 400 books of which about 20 I could honestly
say I have really read/studied. A few others have been dipped into, Most are
2nd hand opening books and are ornaments. (have four books on the endings! )

Chess Junk!
Tablecloths, thimbles, salt and pepper pots, aftershave bottles, jigsaws, socks,
tee-shirts, badges, ornaments, more socks, mugs...you name it and the chances
are I have a chess version it.
