    Grumpy, Dopey, Bashful, Doc....

A checkmate in four from Lord Dunsany.

Another unheard Melody, this time from Bronstein.

A few RHP examples based of removing or defelectng the guard.

The blog post reminded me of a game where removing or deflecting a guard would not have brought about immediate material gain but would have been strong nonetheless.

    In Brglez--Berry (corres.)
White missed (after 31...h5) 32. Nce4! (a kind of "deflection" that liquidates a key defensive piece for Black) 32...Nxe4 33. Nf5! followed by Qxe4, with overwhelming pressure (as pointed out in the tournament book).

Incidentally, the book of games from this event, "Diamond Dust" edited by Jonathan Berry, is outstanding. I haven't checked for used copies.
