I might have a go this year, I think there should be a theme, though, I think it needs a focus.
    Theme idea:
    A dystopian future.

I like the sound of Freewheel as a theme! I fancy having a go at this, but I have no ability whatsoever so definitely stir crazy here! When it says 800 words is that a maximum and is there a minimum?

How about having a vote on the theme, as well as one on the size (historically we have a limit of 800 words [excluding title] and last year it was asked if we could expand to 1000). And we had the suggestion fo a second voting round...

In these dark times, it might be nice to read lots of stories on a 'positive' theme.

A vote seems like a good idea.

    I would feel good with a feel-good story. 🙂

True Rusty, this year has had a bad start for many reasons. Let's hope for the best. And in the meantime I look forward to reading the fine entries by our excellent writers.

I'm in with or without a theme. A theme is challenging but then just writing anything is a challenge!

A theme or title makes it harder. Maybe more open is more inclusive for those absolute beginners of limited talent like me!

    A rhyme,,,
for which we can spare some time
a red rose, a blue violet
the pain. how we can go without it.

I don't really mind, but voting would be harder in a free - for - all? I suggest we make it a thousand words max, it's a nice round figure, and have say, six titles for a vote.
    My suggestion; The Mountain.

    Which so far would give us;

    A Dystopian Future
    Happy Ending
    Freewheel
    The Mountain

But as I say, I'm easy whatever happens.

🙂 Very nice Earl! I really like that.
    Let's keep it going...

    "A rhyme,,,
for which we can spare some time
a red rose, a blue violet
the pain. how we can go without it."

    In time,
a smile ever the more sublime
will brush against this jaded cheek
and console me with the cheer I seek.
