At one point “bear chaser” was part of my job description. I was armed with a sling shot and a pocketful of rocks. I got quite good at it and I have shot several black bears right in the butt hole with golf ball sized rocks.

No, they would frequently come into camp and destroy tents and gear looking for food. Driving them off with a well aimed Rock was better than shooting them. The black bears rarely came back more than once. The handful of grizzlies needed to be tranked and relocated.

I went to a bar this evening where are throwing was a big thing. A guy with what amounts to flippers as arms was hurling axes like a Viking.
