    Pretty good thanks.

Emerging from a stressful 14 months in reasonable shape, working again doing what I love, but feeling a little battered by it all.

It was still in its quotation marks. No disingenuousness intended.

I used to run one many years ago. I hated it.

Talking of "banal", the hyperbolic generalization in this text [above] you've quoted is absurd.

Whoever talked about "most of them", so the "them" refers to Americans? Someone - you? someone talking to you? - thinks "most" Americans are "really superficial and insincere"? Is this you viewpoint?

No disingenuousness was intended. People can look for themselves who it was you quoted. Do you agree with the absurd generalization in the text you quoted?

I suppose if it weren't "only an internal memo", you might have been able to post a link to mention of this "special commendation" if it was on the internet. Oh well.

I think whoever said this is generalizing to the pont of talking nonsense.

I think words are more important than ever now. Before Covid, I had a habit of shaking hands and tapping the person's upper arm with my free hand. (Not on a first meeting). It conveyed a friendliness beyond a simple handshake, a human-to-human connection. (Particularly meaningful to a person who perhaps hadn't been outside for a few days due to anxiety). Now, with social distancing and mask-wearing, I have lost this tool from my toolkit. Words are all I have.
