Walk into an empty room with a bottle of air freshener. Spray it. Loss of smell is one of the main symptoms.

So, you're saying if you can smell you don't have Covid?

I have a wet cough like a cold, but can still smell.

I tried that but as soon as I entered the room it stopped being empty.

Loss of sense of smell is one of the most common symptoms. As some are Asymptomatic, it's not a fail proof. But if you have other symptoms but not that, it is a good sign. Covid is a dry cough too, so phlegm is less likely i believe.
