    @vivify

    I spent 4 years in Art College. Drawing improves with a love of doing it and continued practice also sharpens the hand-eye coordination. Mine has now become really sloppy and I’ve never been very good at straight lines or circles basically because I have no interest in drawing them.

    Not even remotely.

    I'm decent at constructing pictures. But not freehand drawing. Not a chance. Similarly, I'm a decent - not a good, I'm self-aware enough not to believe that - calligrapher, but my normal handwriting is ragged.

    Maybe that's why I'm a programmer, not a salesman, and also why I prefer villanelles and sonnets to free verse.

    Thank you πŸ™‚ but it’s now been so long since I’ve made any art that I find it hard to get back into it. Perhaps I’ll find the time to join some sort of art class one day and recover my old momentum?

    A guy I grew up with a guy who majored in music in college and who had never tried drawing or painting, One day he was asked by one of his daughters if he could draw a picture of what she had seen in a book or newspaper. He told her he didn't know but would give it a try. He found that he had a good hand as an artist and now earns his living as an artist in Bozeman Montana. He does beautiful work. I was only ever moderately good at drawing. Used to draw and paint as a teen and sporadically into my late 20s, then fell out of it.

    No formal training, just mimicry of comic strips, cartoons (print, not TV), science-fiction cover paintings and magazine illustrations (e.g., the ones in Science Fiction Art, edited by Brian Aldiss).

    I did learn some things about perspective, composition, negative space, color schemes, etc. from instructional books.

    Do you count stick men/women as drawing? πŸ˜‰

    Mainly hanging and quartering for me. Drawing is just a little distasteful.

    I don't see why not - L.S. Lowry did.
