Exactly, exactly, exactly. The #1 excuse for not giving homeless people money is "they'll just buy alcohol with it". I guess well-off people need an excuse like this so they can live with themselves being a**holes.
A similar lie in the news recently is Republicans not wanting to give out unemployment assistance to people, saying that "it just encourages them to not look for a job", as if people can live on unemployment checks indefinitely. The same old "these people don't want to work" lie.
Corporations can ease the cost of living bind by actually hiring people during Democratic administrations instead of purposely not hiring to make the President look bad. But corporations (and their Republican toadies) aren't known for actually caring about people.
