The Associated Press has reportedly fired journalist Jim LaPorta, who was one of two bylines that ran with the false report that Russian missiles hit Poland. The only source of that story was anonymous, which goes against AP's policy.

Since no one in the US government has any incentive to "start WWIII", a far more likely explanation than someone "lying" to do so is that an official simply repeated what he had heard i.e. that a Russian missile had hit a farm in Poland. This was true enough (the missile is Russian made), but the reporter ran with the story without following proper guidelines. Biden quickly corrected the misinformation. That really is the end of it for any reasonable, non-idiot; the idea that some official in the US was "attempting mass murder" and "trying to start WWIII" is on its face ludicrously deranged.

Moreover, an inadvertent missile hit on a farm in Poland, even if done by Russia, wasn't going to start WWIII. Sure, it would have ratcheted up tensions a bit but it wouldn't trigger a NATO-Russia war. To think otherwise is to believe that NATO really wants an outright war with Russia which it quite clearly doesn't.

No, it has nothing to do with partisanship; I've been critical of US policy during this war, but I'm not going to believe fantastic conspiracy theories about how Person A, B and C really want WWIII when they are clearly and utterly without any reasonable foundation.
