Who knew? Apparently Michael Moore does.

Filmmaker Michael Moore says being a Christian is the "same thing" as being a socialist.

Appearing on MSNBC's "Hardball" with Chris Matthews on Wednesday, the liberal activist, who says he voted for self-described socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (Vt.) for president in the Democratic primary, defended his decision to vote for Hillary Clinton in the general election. (Relevant portion begins around the 2:45 mark):

"You don't understand what's going to happen after 2016. These young people, these 18- to 35-year-olds — remember there's 3 million more 18-year-old voters every single year — so by the next election that's 12 million more of them," Moore said. "They favor socialism over capitalism."

Matthews interrupted, pointing out that "Hillary's not a socialist."

Moore responded: "Well, she's a Christian, so it's the same thing."

"It's all about making sure everyone has a seat at the table and the pie is divided so that everybody gets a slice," Moore added. "Isn't that what Christianity is? That's what she's about."

Does this prove once and for all that socialism is really a religion and that there should be NO separation of church and state?

Apparently Michael Moore visited the Pope where the Pope declared capitalism a "sin". Then the Pope encouraged him to go make more Left wing films.

Is this the beginning of the religious Left?

I never have believed that Jesus Christ would approve of abortions and that was one of the problems I had when I was president having to uphold Roe v. Wade and I did everything I could to minimize the need for abortions. I made it easy to adopt children for instance who were unwanted and also initiated the program called Women and Infant Children or WIC program that's still in existence now. But except for the times when a mother's life is in danger or when a pregnancy is caused by rape or incest I would certainly not or never have approved of any abortions. I've signed a public letter calling for the Democratic Party at the next convention to espouse my position on abortion which is to minimize the need, requirement for abortion and limit it only to women whose life [sic] are in danger or who are pregnant as a result of rape or incest. I think if the Democratic Party would adopt that policy that would be acceptable to a lot of people who are now estranged from our party because of the abortion issue.

It proves to me that the myth is still alive that there is some sort of one big pie. There are a LOT of pies.

A socialist looks at the universe as one big pie, one that they must have for themselves to redistribute as they see fit.

A capitalist looks at the universe as one big pie, one that they must have all for themselves; and screw everyone else unto death. 'I and my big pie only matter'; is what the capitalist says.

The universe is eternal dolt, along with all it's resources.

    That is the point.

The economic circumstances of this time cannot compare to the current, nor was there any comprehensive market ideology.

But it is worth noting that the default position of Kings and rulers prior to the Enlightenmnt was one of intervention and was characterized often by price fixing and some minimal forms of welfare provision. It was a very common problem to tax the dickens out of the economy and create a crisis -- balancing these sorts of crisises was a massive ordeal.

You can also see the start of sophisticated monetary policy in the 17th century. Mercantilism basically was the fruit of this, and among the mercantilists there would be people who were also theorizing about taxes and its effect on the economy.

It is also noteworthy that it was around the sixteenth century that you started seeing things like Spain running a debt-based economy and borrowing heavily from bankers as a norm. Prior to this, you only saw nations go into debt out of sheer necessity (like England during the Hundred Years War), and not maintain some complex system of loans and debt management perpetually.

At least, this is how I understand it...

Christianity seems to teach a general discouragement from materialism but also has passages about our obligation to work for what is ours... It is also noteworthy that both Christ and Paul and many of the Apostles appear to be from the artisan class at a minimum, or "skilled labor," meaning they would be in the top 10-15% of society as a whole and have far more options and upward mobility... yet, they preached the benefits of poverty and it appears encouraged collevtivism to some degree while simutlaneously viewing idleness as a sin.

Who knows how to translate that into modern political allegiances.

Definitely not some hard free market orientation but also definitely not some hard far Communist orientation.

Anything in the middle is game, IMO.

Actually whodey had that one the right way around, 'Fair share' as in fair share of the one big pie is the language of the left whinger. Capitalists believe in making pies, more and more pies.

For themselves, yes. They believe in making more and more, bigger and bigger pies for themselves. They believe that by making it impossible for others to make pies, they can make even more and bigger pies for themselves. They like for others to eat the crumbs that fall on the floor while they eat their pies.

You're all bitter and twisted inside, but you got the gist of it, the creation of wealth.
