I don't have any real opinion on this. Seems reasonable all things considered. I don't have any criticism of the police involved. Some contextual observations maybe.
First of all, it happened in Orange County. That's a right leaning area. My first assumption was that it happened in Downtown LA because there is a large scale homeless encampment centered on Skid Row and the homeless jaywalk all the time there.
But it happened by Homeless Outreach officers in Orange County. So, maybe a similar encampment down there, probably smaller, and a more conservative population than LA. Ironic that it was Homeless Outreach; or maybe they were concerned about the safety of the other homeless due to the behavior of a potentially dangerous person.
Keep in mind this is Southern California and someone shot a cop in the head recently in Compton. This is where the Bloods and Crips come from (as well as other gangs) so there are a lot of hardcore gang members out here. I had an Israeli business associate for a while who was impressed by the near military level of professionalism and capability showed by LAPD. He said it wasn't like that in Israel.
