Well I am trying to do my bit to help Green the land by getting my bike back in working, in more than 1 of it's 10 gears.
My old neighbor was bike-crazy. He bought and sold them just for fun. I recall that his primary source for rare parts and accessories was Craig's List. Good luck my man. That bike is a classic!

Here's a quickly googled link that might help:

Post-defeat propaganda was indeed part of Bonaparte's, very trumpian, M.O.

His military campaign in Egypt ended in disaster for his army. But, after he shamefully abandoned it in Cairo, he returned to Paris a hero.

Napoleon was a master at crafting his own image. Unfortunately, this associative fact has chastened the image of two great artists: Ludwig van Beethoven and Jacques-Louis David.

It's difficult to make solid assessments of the great men and women in history. 20/20 hindsight is sometimes clouded by popular myth.

On the spectrum between good and evil and when compared to historical peers like Stalin or Hitler; I believe that L'Empereur lands a tad more on the good side. In any case, I believe that the legacy he's left to France has been mostly beneficial.

Can I say in thread parenthesis that I totally accept that climate change is occurring due to increased CO2 levels. I also accept that it is probably species threatening due to the negative cascade of biological and agricultural impacts. I am in no way a ‘climate change denier’.

I prefer the truth and this volcanic glacier story with plaques and memorials and lamenting and ceremonies and pilgrimages smells of hand-wringing media- fuelled politicised storifying.
Sounds like attempted science-denial to me.
High hopes for this thread were disappointed soon after second post.

    Nice derailing.

That isn't my assessment but a portion of an Wiki article on "The Lost Cause of the Confederacy".
Oh...I see. That's a relief. I was kind of thinking that you were speaking in an unusual voice.

It might behoove me to read more thoroughly in future. I get kind of perky when it comes to sympathies for the "southern cause". There are just so many things wrong-headed about it.

I'd trade places with John Kennedy on Nov. 22, 1963. Then just as the limo entered Dealey Plaza at 1230, I'd tie both of my shoes.

Well you've absorbed most of the Lost Cause ideology (based on your prior posts) but not all:

Confederate generals such as Robert E. Lee, Albert Sidney Johnston, and Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson represented the virtues of Southern nobility and fought bravely and fairly. On the other hand, most Northern generals were characterized as possessing low moral standards, becaus ...[text shortened]... ea, a more centralized and efficient supply structure and better political leadership to name a few.
    The assessment holds some validity.
But, I assure you that the North had many fine gentlemen in its ranks too.

I will not begin to debate the relative demerits of "southern nobility". The mere fact of slavery's existence ends the discussion.

And the Andersonville Prison was not the brainchild of a civilized society. I do realize that atrocities occur in war and that neither boxer in the fight came away without blood on his knuckles..

A post-war Japanese soldier on Guam survived for 28 years on shrimp, snails, coconuts and Americans' garbage.

Guamanian's eat very well: A virtual smorgasbord for the poor chap.

Kim is firing rockets in response to menacing joint military drills (US SK) off the coast of NKorea. Trump says he is against the practice and I agree!

It just goes to show you US military leaders DoD have a mind of their own. Trump should just put his foot down on that taunting crap
The man gives aid and comfort to our enemies even as he gives a rash of shyt to our allies. Whether through treachery, ignorance or deliberate negligence: trump is harming the United States of America.

The self-pitying Duchess64 shouldn't feel too bad. Plenty of non-American, non-white and non-racist people dislike her too.

In fact, her unpopularity... is very popular.

If the racist troll Philokalia flatters his fellow jingoistic American Sonhouse enough,
will Sonhouse endorse Philokalia's pseudoscientific beliefs on white racial supremacy?
    Duchess64 continues her self-flattery campaign.
She's the only member of the forum who habitually quotes herself.

I'd post a corresponding link to Duchess64 from Wikipedia...if I could find one.

I, sometimes, get dead tired. Does that count?

    🤔
I was dead for hundreds of trillions of years before I was born. The least I can do is make the most out of the 75 to 100 years I've on this planet before returning to my original state.

I lack the time to be as honestly critical as I could be of all nonsense by ignorant laymen here.
Speaking of arrogance: Duchess64 seems to find plenty of time to copy and paste Wikipedia and occasionally, academic research of others' far more qualified than herself.

If I was not here merely for fun and banter, I too, could copy and paste scholarly articles from peer-reviewed databases.

You know, those things that true professionals utilize to be taken seriously.
