Schliemann defence + Knights vs Bishops + Zugzwang city

  • 1. e4 e5 2. Ng1f3 Nb8c6 3. Bf1b5 f5
!? The Schliemann defence is quite a sharp opening, similar to the Latvian, in which Black typically sacrifices pawns to attack the Kingside
    • 4. exf5
The best reply is regarded as developing with Nc3, covering the e-pawn, but this was my first time facing the gambit, so I felt it was prudent to accept and see what happens.
      • 4... e4 5. Qd1e2 Qd8e7
Breaks the pin, and the Knight doesn't have any forward squares to advance to, so..
        • 6. Bb5xc6
The first knight-bishop exchange is made, freeing up the d4 square
          • 6... dxc6 7. Nf3d4
This also protects f5, for now
            • 7... Ng8f6 8. Nb1c3 Qe7e5
Trying to hold the pawn will only cause trouble for White i.e. Qe3 could be met with Bc5 or Ng4
              • 9. Nd4b3
I favoured this square over Nf3 mainly as it stops Black from having Bc5
                • 9... Bc8xf5 10. O-O O-O-O 11. d4
Hits the Queen, opens a diagonal for the Bishop, and there is no en-passant
                  • 11... Qe5e8 12. Bc1g5 Qe8g6 13. Bg5xf6
And there's the second exchange... I guess I just wanted to remove a defender of e4 (if Qxf6, White gains a pawn)
                    • 13... gxf6 14. Qe2e3
Flexible move, covering d4, stopping Bh3 ideas, potentially eyeing a7
