To take or not to take? That is the question!

  • 1. e4 c5 2. f4 d6 3. Ng1f3 g6 4. Bf1c4 e6 5. O-O Bf8g7 6. c3 Ng8e7 7. d4 cxd4 8. Nf3xd4 a6 9. b4 b5 10. Bc4b3 Bc8b7 11. Kg1h1
The delicate position, coming from out of nowhere. White is offering the pawn on e4 and is looking to then sac on e6, gaining attacking tempo.... but is this sound?
    • 11... Bb7xe4
According to Fritz, taking was good for Black, and although White can take on e6, Black shouldn't panic and simply develop the sleeping Knight on b8
      • 12. Bb3xe6
There is no need to take this Bishop.... Nc6 here and Fritz scores Black at -1.01
        • 12... fxe6
? But taking here actually swings the point around in White's favour
          • 13. Nd4xe6 Qd8d7 14. Ne6xg7 Ke8f7
Here, Fritz suggests f4-f5 is best for White and scores the game at 2.87
            • 15. Qd1d4
? However Qd4 is a mistake... saccing with Bxg2+ is now the best move for Black, as then Nc6 can be played, hitting the Queen thus forcing her away from protecting the knight on g7
              • 15... d5
This was missed by both players, instead Black feebly tries to defend the position
                • 16. f5
This becomes futile, Black is losing lots of material and later tries for a swindle, with no joy
                  • 16... gxf5 17. Ng7xf5 Ne7xf5 18. Qd4xh8 Kf7g6 19. Qh8g8 Nf5g7 20. Qg8f8 Qd7e6 21. Bc1e3 Nb8c6
Purely to pull the Queen away from the f-file... there is however no perpetual, White can defend easily enough
                    • 22. Qf8xa8 Be4xg2
This was 7 moves too late!
