After having lost to blundercity in the previous game with the black pieces, I needed to play something I understand.
1... e5 2. g3 Nb8c6 3. Bf1g2 g6
ok, we are heading for Botvinnik English
4. Nb1c3 Bf8g7 5. e4 d6 6. Ng1e2 f5
this is probably blacks most natural source of counter play, but it comes earlier than expected
7. d3 Ng8f6
this is a subtle difference, normally black plays the knight to e7 so that he can retake on f5 with the knight, eyeing the d4 square
8. O-O fxe4
black loses pawn control of e4 square
9. dxe4 O-O 10. Ra1b1 Bc8e6 11. Nc3d5
knight is almost immune here where it pressures blacks position, if bishop takes we have a backward pawn on a half open c file to work with, knight takes is impossible due to the pawn fork
11... Qd8d7
this is perhaps blacks idea, exchange light squared bishops and try to create weakness around my king
12. b4 Be6g4
i see this move a lot, the pin is ineffectual for I have f3
13. f3 Bg4e6 14. b5 Nc6e7 15. Bc1e3 Nf6xd5
the knight was immune, now black will have problems with the c pawn
16. cxd5 Be6f7 17. a4 c6
this does not appear to me to solve blacks problems, the d pawn will now become weak and blacks bishop would much rather be on e7 than g7
